Scars of war

My dad signed up for Vietnam on his 18th birthday.
He spent 22 months overseas and was exposed to Agent Orange.
He thought he understood the risks. No one told him that the risks would follow him home.
I was born 10 years later with spina bifida, club feet, and one hip socket. I needed 21 surgeries by age 12.
I’ve been able to succeed despite these hardships, but our family has lived with the scars of war for almost half a century.
My dad isn’t bitter, but he doesn’t want other families to go through what ours did.
Now I’m in a position to make sure it doesn’t.
I’m tied in the race to become Iowa’s next U.S. Senator and take back the Senate majority.

Together,
